Determination Determines Our Destiny

We set goals and embark on achieving them with much enthusiasm, only to find that very often our efforts started well but were half-hearted as we went along. Looking back, we may well find a string of well-intentioned motives incomplete in their closure. If we think about it, we had the resources, had the ability, but we probably lacked determination.

Determination is a game changer when we realise how powerful it is and if we learn how to bring it into play when we most need it. Understanding determination is understanding what differentiates mediocrity from excellence.

Quick successes energise us, but there are times when the road we are on is long and sometimes uphill. We often feel a sense of tiredness and mental fatigue even when physically we are okay. Determination gives us the stamina and enthusiasm when we lose energy and all but abandon the goal we set out to achieve.

Setbacks are part of life, we know it, but that doesn’t mean we know how to deal with them. Not only do we lose momentum, we lose heart. If we are not quick to pull ourselves out of the low that we experience, we risk staying in that state for long enough to harm us. Determination gives us the hope and endurance to spring back from the toughest situation.

It is not just challenges but distractions that also take us away from our path. It is so easy to lose focus and move in different directions, losing our way and finding our life moving in circles. Determination keeps our focus and says yes even when the mind is saying no.

If we ever find ourselves losing energy, losing heart, or losing our focus, we need to rekindle the determination in us that has the power to overcome. And when we wonder why things happen the way they do and why some things come our way or not, we may realise a simple but often overlooked fact of life – today’s determination is tomorrow’s destiny.
