Crossing The Line

We all live with mental boundaries. Things we will and will not do. Behaviour and principles we will live by. But sometimes we find ourselves in a difficult situation and strained relationships, and looking back we realise we had crossed the line.

These self imposed imaginary lines are guard-rails within which we have chosen to live our lives. For us it defines who we are. And we understand that the quality of our life is determined by living the narrow and straight between these lines. So why do we find ourselves occasionally crossing the line.

Temptation clouds our judgement. Our self control is tested when we come in contact with objects to satiate our desire, even though we have decided not to. The force of our base desires become uncontrollable and we cross the line.

Ego makes us delusional. When we operate through our pride we behave in a manner not befitting us. We forget that every human is as deserving of dignity and respect. When we are not mindful, our false sense of status makes us cross the line.

Winning at any cost is destructive. The wrong understanding of success and popularity makes us compromise and cross the line of fairness and ethics.

Comparing ourselves to others can be dangerous. If we are not secure within, we get pressured into doing things to keep up and sometimes get accepted. Our decisions are driven not by our judgement but our insecurity.

In times of well-being and prosperity we tend to drop our guard and feel it’s ok to loosen up a bit. And before we know it our mind has dragged us outside our internal limits. Being mindful and vigilant in prosperity is probably more important than when in despair.

And sometimes we feel we can cross the line because nobody will know. We forget our true character is not what we do when watched, but how we behave when no one sees us.

Crossing the line is easy, recovering from that is slow and painful. The temporary short term satisfaction compromises our lasting joy and happiness.

We often look at the lines on our palm and wonder what our destiny is. We need to look within and see the lines we have crossed, and we will know what destiny has in store for us.
