When we need an opinion, or support or find ourselves in a situation, we turn to a few people in our life who over the years become our ‘go-to’ people. This strong support system not only becomes a source of strength but also develops into shaping us as well along the way. We may not have thought of it, but it is worth reflecting on why these people are our intuitive ‘go-to’ people in life.
We respect their judgement and perspective. Their own experiences of life gives them the ability to look at things from an angle we may not have considered. Their advice often changes the way we may have approached things if left all to ourselves.
We trust them immensely, not just with their advice but also in safeguarding the confidentiality of our relationship. So often even when we may not be entirely sure, we follow their guidance because of the trust we have in them.
They make themselves available when we really need them. In today’s world, resources are relatively easy to come by, time is always at a premium. People who are there for us not just in spirit but in person are the ones we really need in a difficult time.
But most importantly, they care for us. They often make our problems their own and in spite of their own busy lives, they stand by us, never making us feel alone.
And as we count the blessing of having them in our life, we ourselves need to find the time and be there for those who seek our help because we may not realise it, but in their hour of real need we could well be the one person they depend on and go to.
