Five Lessons I Learnt From My Mother

Feb 3, 2021 | family, Love | 33 comments

We learn a lot from books and articles. Some of the most powerful lessons can be learnt from a human book who are part of our life. One such blessing in my life is mom from whom I have learnt five key life lessons.

The ability to give unconditional love comes from our own inner security and abundance. The clarity and grace to be able to reject a behaviour without losing love for someone. And approaching everyone with a spirit of love, just as a gardener who sees the entire garden as hers, not just the trees she has planted.

To carry the brilliance of ability with the grace of humility. When we live with a spirit of service dedicating every action to a Higher, our actions carry a hue which we ourselves are unaware of.

The power of gentleness and kindness in a highly complex world. The strongest point can be put across without harshness, and kindness has the power to win over people. A sword need not be drawn when a needle will be more effective.

Authenticity comes from making our knowledge our own lived experience; moving from just knowing to being. And the highest form of gratitude is sharing knowledge with others. Her willingness and ability to regularly take Vedanta classes, patiently clear doubts, and always be available to guide others has truly taught us the value of gratitude and service.

The strongest lesson was when during a difficult time she guided me and said – ‘Never ask why me, always ask now what’. Positivity and faith get developed when we dispel the darkness of fear and doubt by igniting the light of knowledge and confidence.

On her 75th birthday today, it is difficult to think of a present for her. One can only give her the deepest respect, gratitude and love.
