Christmas is associated with the sentiment of spreading cheer. The call to all of us to find the charity, goodness and love within. Connecting with family, friends and all those close to us in a spirit of celebration and togetherness.
It’s wonderful that festivals remind us and evoke that feeling. However, we don’t need to wait to be reminded, if we have truly understood the power and importance of spreading cheer.
There are many around us who may be going through challenging situations in their life. We may not be able to give them solutions, but when they experience cheer, it comes as a much needed boost to their morale. Spreading cheer can lift sagging spirits.
Cheer reflects our own outlook in life. We can either live complaining or with gratitude. Our positive approach not only lightens our own load, in a joyous mood we find creative answers. Spreading cheer makes us expansive.
Our sense of self-importance can often make us serious, critical, over-sensitive and constantly seeking and demanding attention. When we invert the flow of attention, we stop taking ourselves too seriously in life. We learn to reach out, finding joy in the joy of others. Spreading cheer dilutes our ego.
As children, we asked Santa for something we didn’t have. As we grew older, we realised where the gifts were coming from. But we still have needs and sometimes secretly pray for a Secret Santa to appear in our lives and help us. Spreading cheer is beyond just the fun of being together. It is finding our inner capacity to go out of our way to ease someone else’s pain and be there for them in their hour of need when they least expected it.
Being that Secret Santa in someone’s life, is truly spreading cheer.
Joy doubles when we share it with others. Beautiful thoughts Vivek. Thank you.
