Optimism doesn’t mean we are divorced from reality. Nor is it living in false hope. It is a state of mind that believes that a better future can be possible. And this sense, even though not accurate all the time, reflects our inner makeup. And we can understand ourselves better when we observe how we view situations.
Optimism is based in our inner strength and confidence. The knowledge that our ability to solve a problem is greater than the problem. It is not the arrogance of conceit, but the deep sense of connection with an untapped ability.
It comes from faith. That hard work and good intent will pay off. Just because others take short cuts and move ahead faster, doesn’t take away from the virtue of leading a principle-centred life.
It comes from abundance. When we live with a paradigm of sharing with others and a sense that there is enough for everyone, we truly believe things will get taken care of.
It comes from knowledge. We understand that nothing lasts forever and tough times will also pass. We view challenges as a test, life is putting us through, with the optimism of coming through stronger.
It comes from learning from our past, but not getting stuck in our past. Optimism comes when we finally realise that life gives us several opportunities in spite of several failures.
It comes from gratitude for what we have and reflecting on where we have come from. Many of us can look back at very tough times and yet today feel grateful for so much in place.
Nobody knows what the future holds. And things won’t always play out the way we want. But let that never dampen our spirit. Optimism is not just believing there’s light at the end of the tunnel. It is living with a positive cheer and spirit that teaches us to light up the tunnel itself.

Wonderfully put. Thank you again. I believe optimism is so important to our lives and the lifes of others. I have just been contacted yesterday by my colleagues during our 2nd lock down. They wanted to have more motivation more positive spirits from me. They wanted to know why i am always so positve. I laughed, told them that any challenge is just another experience which will let them grow. And that action will help them.
Thanks for sharing this Karin…. 🙂
