Everything we think, say and do has an effect, not only in the world outside but in our inner world as well. And emotions attached to them start getting collected within. Sometimes we are conscious of them but most often not. But they don’t just disappear, they exist in our sub-conscious.
A volcano on the outside is just a mountain and yet, when the lava erupts it can be very dangerous. So too with our unresolved thoughts and emotions. Just because we may have brushed them off or not given them their due attention and closure, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. They lie within and can erupt, shattering our peace and throwing us off balance.
When we feel restless and agitated and are unable to understand why, since most things seem to be in place, we need to look within and connect with what is lying beneath the surface that is bothering us. And during our Quiet Time, we will know. Broken promises, half-finished assignments and responsibilities, starting something we have been putting off for long, a hurt or anger at something said to us which we thought we had dealt with, a strained relationship which isn’t broken but also not entirely in place, waiting for an outcome that could impact us or just not having clarity through so many uncertainties in our life.
Keeping ourselves busy and occupied all the time, without addressing our inner thoughts and feelings is like constantly eating without allowing time and space for proper digestion of our earlier meal. Our system will give way.
There are many mental drawers in which we have put away things hoping they just go away. But the only way to clean the drawer is to open it, take out one thing at a time, realise its importance and decide what we want to discard and keep. And when we do this with awareness and honesty, sitting in silence or sometimes discussing with someone we trust, we give ourselves the much needed perspective and clarity.
We are conscious of what is going on in the world. We spend enough time gathering news and information. We need to start spending time with ourselves to be conscious of what lies within, in our sub-conscious. The volcano within can erupt if we don’t.
Thanks for escalating the need to check the below the hood from time to time and heed the flashing warningS from our own temperament 🙏🌹
Love the mental drawers!
