Constancy And Consistency

Aug 31, 2020 | patience, resilience | 1 comment

Constancy of Purpose and Consistency of Self Application is  the combination to achieve anything we want.

In most cases our excitement and enthusiasm flows from having started something. But soon we settle into the routine of building slowly and steadily. And this is the phase where the mind plays truant.

The mind doesn’t like routine. It’s constantly looking for something new, different and exciting. And we easily shift our attention and energy leaving behind a life of well intentioned, well begun but unfinished endeavours.

Constancy of purpose is critical. Our purpose needs to be not only inspiring, everything we do must directly and indirectly contribute to working on fulfilling our purpose.

When a child is born, the mother  is rooted in her purpose of motherhood. No matter what she is doing she always has one eye on her new born. And no matter what other temptations and distractions come in her life, she never loses sight of her purpose. When we fully commit ourselves, not only is our purpose rooted in us, our mind gets rooted in the purpose as well.

But no purpose is a achieved with half hearted effort. Gandhi lived for his cause tirelessly everyday till his last. Swimming legend Michael Phelps would swim 80,000 meters every week, six hours a day seven days a week. Being purposeful is not a part time pass time.

Constancy of application is like boiling water. If we keeping turning off the fire and restarting occasionally, we will get warm water but never the energy of steam. We need to learn to be at it, never stopping till the goal is reached.

An unwavering and disciplined attitude is critical. Talking is easy. Saying the right things is easy. Giving it our everything, everyday through all the ups and downs is key.

And life rewards us, not because we were lucky, but we had Constancy of Purpose and Consistency of Self Application.

  1. Fabulous. Ability is what one is capable of doing, but it is really the attitude that determines how well you do it.
