Need for Space

We have a need for space. Not just physical space but time just to ourselves, our “me-time”. I was thinking about why this need exists even when we are in perfectly happy relationships and have a good life.

It is the time and space we need to build the relationship with ourselves. To review, reflect and redirect the way we live. To have a conversation with ourselves. This is not the space for planning and setting goals . This is the space for getting to know ourselves better, being honest in our own presence. It is the space of just being and feeling connected.

We all find our space in different ways. For some it’s meditation, for some going for a walk or a solitary run. Some like to take off for a few days and for others it could be the time spent in their favourite coffee shop.

The need for space doesn’t mean we want to go away from people we care for. It means we want to get closer to ourselves to be able able to give our best in our relationships.

When we understand and experience our precious me time, we start respecting the needs of others to have their own space. Giving space to each other strengthens relationships.

Everyone knows the notes. It’s the space between that creates the music.
