Wealth

The way we measure our wealth determines how rich a life we lead. If the pursuit of material wealth is our only measure, we will be rich, but may not necessarily be wealthy.

Of course money is important, but it is like petrol in the car. Without petrol the car can’t run, without money, we can’t run our organisations and families. However, we don’t drive the car for the petrol. We drive it to reach a destination. And we enjoy the drive. Similarly, we don’t run our lives just for money. We live for a purpose and to achieve milestones in life, in a joyful manner.

Living for a purpose and joyfully working towards these inspiring milestones, makes us wealthy. And our life portfolio too has assets we must invest in and grow, to make us wealthy.

Family and friends enrich our lives. Having people we love, trust and share our lives with. Memories with them when they move away brings that invaluable smile on our face. Making friends makes us wealthy.

The depth of our relationships gives a different dimension to life. To be able to share our ideas, concerns, vulnerabilities and joys. And sometimes things don’t work out or we stop talking to a best friend. In spite of that, some relationships are worth reinvesting in. Let our ego not write out the cheques of our life.

The experiences we give ourselves stay with us and can be worth much. Different experiences give us different emotions and learnings. The richness of having tried different things in life makes living fun. When we look back on life we won’t count the balance in our bank. We will count the wealth of experiences and memories we have collected.

A healthy life, a learning life, a meaningful life may not improve our standard of living but definitely enhance our standard of life.

The currency of the world is money, but the currency of life is love. And when we trade in love, we live a life no money can buy. And those who live with love and joy in their heart, are truly Wealthy.

  3. I fully agree, but still, Love will be at its best position when money is a tool also for love, for those in need, and some are badly in need! I read a small text that said that the calling of rich people is “the poor”. We could say that the purpose of money and wealth is to be used for those in need! I remember telling a friend who was wondering how I was coping with no salary (being a volunteer full time): the point is not where you get your money from, but what you use it for! In this, we are all with the same challenge!

    • Very well put Claude. Application of our money is as important as how we make that money.
