Mirrors are so important. We look into them daily, making adjustments and looking out for signs which need our attention. And rightly so, when we look good to ourselves, we feel good.
But what about the mirrors that help us see our inner world. We do need to have a way of seeing ourselves to bring about the change we deeply desire. These mirrors are available to us by way of practices.
Introspection allows us to look at how we are managing ourselves as we go through life. Reflecting on our actions and more importantly, the motives behind them shows us the real us.
Quiet time and time of silence helps us see the deep-seated thought patterns residing in us, many we may want to change. We see our desires and emotions and start understanding ourselves and our behaviour better.
Listening to our inner voice and seeking guidance shows us the potential that we truly have and shines the light on possibilities and ideas we never thought possible.
Awareness in action reflects our state of mind. Every time we look for our keys or phone, which we ourselves have kept somewhere with our own hands, we can see the divorce between our actions and attention, many a time leading to accidents in life.
Being open to feedback and criticism shows us who we are. Sometimes people can see things about us we ourselves are blind to. They are mirrors to show us what we cannot or don’t want to see. Their words though sometimes painful, are a blessing.
But these mirrors are only useful if we use them every day. They purify the mind. We must make this a daily discipline and commitment to ourselves. Inner change happens gradually because it’s not how we look but who we are. And these mirrors must never gather the dust of our ego which prevents us from being honest with ourselves when we are by ourselves.
We don’t need to chase happiness. Our pure and clear mind will mirror the Joy that we truly are.
Nice one Vivek. True friends are like Internal mirror whose criticism and support help us see our true self in times of both: Joy and trouble.
Very true
