We have our dreams, and then our reality. Often we find that even though we can see it in our mind’s eye, we see a gap in the outcome from the way we had imagined it. Sometimes these gaps cause anxiety and frustration, often leaving us wondering what could be the best way to bridge this gap. It will serve us well to remind ourselves of something we probably know, but often forget – the bridge between our dreams and reality is our action.
Our challenge is not the initial enthusiasm to start something; it is sustaining the effort over a period of time and staying the course, especially when things get difficult and we don’t see quick results. We often give up and stop persevering. No one has ever crossed a river on a half-built bridge.
Sometimes we find ourselves very busy, always on the move, and yet, not achieving what we set out to achieve. When action is not channelised action, it dissipates energy and opportunities. Focus is the foundation on which the bridge of successful action is built.
Our physical action needs inner strength, courage and determination. When we bridge the gaps within our personality and character, we build effective bridges of results and relationships in the world. We realise our dreams not only when we act in the world, but when we also act on ourselves.
When things get tough, life tests our fortitude. When things take time, life tests our patience. When success comes quickly, life tests our humility and gratitude. Such is the journey between our dreams and reality, and we will only truly live out our dreams if we walk on the bridge of action and remind ourselves to keep moving.
