There is a part of us that is always wondering how the future will play out for us. Some of us are happy to have our hands read, and out of curiosity, we may read our horoscope in the papers. Over the years we have gathered enough experiences to keep us busy for a lifetime – some issues need to get resolved, some need to be built on and some new dimensions of life need to be experienced. No matter how much we have, we always wonder what life has in store for us.
The never-ending debate of destiny and free will keeps playing in our heads. Are all things that will come to me already determined, or do I have control over my future ? From our own experience, we know that some things have worked out the way we had planned them, making us believe we are in control. And yet, at other times things have gone in the most unexpected way, making us believe we have no control. We don’t realise it, but a silent anxiety may well be active in us.
We get anxious to get what we are working towards, getting angry when we don’t achieve it. We get anxious to preserve and protect what we possess, getting fearful of losing it. Sometimes, much of our life is spent seesawing between anger and fear, forgetting to enjoy the precious moments that so quickly pass us by.
The future will only unfold itself one day at a time. And when we live each day giving our best and making the most of the time we have, we will realise something that gives us immense internal strength – things may take time, and life may test us, but life has a way of sorting things out.

Submission to the inevitable in order to focus on that which we can alter, often starting with ourselves, is the wise way. It can be the hard way too – blaming others for situations is easier but can be futile.
