Counting Our Wealth

Apr 3, 2022 | balance, relationship | 2 comments

We regularly evaluate how wealthy we are. Our security and well-being is linked to it, which is understandable as there are bills to pay and needs to meet. But we need to take a step back and differentiate between assessing our affordability and our wealth. Our bank balance will tell us what we can afford, but our wealth need not be counted by our bank balance. There are three other balances that we need to count that truly reflect our wealthy we are.

When we count the experiences we are giving ourselves in life, we will find that we have enriched ourselves by discovering the beauties of the world and unfolding our inner personality through the excitement of the ups and downs of life. Stepping out of our comfort zones and living fully what the world has to offer makes us wealthy.

When we count the true friends we have and the depth of the relationships we carry, we realise how fortunate we are and the value it brings to our lives. Our deep and strong relationships make us wealthy.

When we count the number of people in whose life we may have made an impact, even in a small way, we unleash our empathy and love. It also makes us realise how fortunate we are that we ourselves can be of help to someone else, making us grateful for all that is in place in our own lives. Touching lives and being there for others makes us wealthy.

We must do well in life and give ourselves and others a good quality of life, there should be no compromise in that. But to stop at that and to consider just our bank balance will be cheating ourselves of what life truly has to offer. The balance of our experiences, relationships, and the impact we have made is what makes life worth it and wealthy.
