One of the best feelings in the world is knowing that you are not alone and that you have someone walking alongside you in life. As I reflect on the journey of togetherness that started on this day 25 years ago, I am humbled by the blessing of deserving a life partner who is as wonderful as can be.
She is a friend who shines the light on what I may be doing right, rejoicing in my happiness, and yet holding up the mirror with as much love, to show me where I need to change.
She’s taught me to live with abundance and generosity, and yet asks very little for herself.
She has an amazing eye for design, beauty, and quality, allowing her work to speak for itself, and yet hardly speaks of the amazing achievements she has accomplished.
She knows she can have many big things in life if she wants, and yet it is the small things that give her real joy and happiness.
She lives with a moral compass that guides our family, and yet she never takes the moral high ground in life.
She has given unconditional love and support at every stage when I needed it, and yet has never put conditions for anything she herself has needed.
She is fiercely independent, living by her values, and yet ever-dependable, always there to help anyone who reaches out to her.
She has brought up her children to be loving and responsible, caring for them at every step, and yet she has trusted them with their freedom, giving them their space to make their choices and shape their own future.
She has cried when she has been hurt, and yet never once hurt me back in response.
She grew up in a nuclear family, and yet has become the nucleus of holding together a large extended family.
Thank you Rashida for walking alongside me for 25 years. As the beautiful song in Sound of Music goes – ‘For somewhere in my youth, or childhood, I must have done something good’.
