Giving Meaning To Our Life

Mar 6, 2021 | Love | 1 comment

We have often wondered what is the meaning of life. We may have looked at the question analytically, spiritually, or even been critical of the question itself. There are so many questions to which we may not have an answer. The truth is that each one of us has to answer the question for ourselves and learn to find meaning and purpose in life.

We were not born for mere existence. Even if we try to live a life of just enjoyment and indulgence, beyond a point we will start feeling a void and emptiness that leaves us searching for something more. That is the search for meaning in our life.

When we have a vision and work towards it, knowing that it will make a difference in the lives of people, life becomes meaningful because we are making a difference.

When the spirit of service becomes our second nature, especially when we are in a position of power, life becomes meaningful because it’s all about giving as much as we can, to as many as we can, for as long as we can.

When we are equally at ease dining with a head of state or enjoying a roadside cup of tea, life becomes meaningful because we have learnt to drop our self-importance and value each experience in its entirety.

When we live with love, not just for a select few but with a loving nature, touching the hearts of even those we meet for the first time, life becomes meaningful.

When we decide to understand ourselves better and start discovering the capacities that we have, we start unfolding our inner beauty. This self-unfoldment gives meaning to life.

And without getting into too many intellectual and philosophical discussions, we realise that we have given meaning to our life when we know that someone in this world is happy because we are part of their life.

  1. DOING GOOD FOR OTHERS IS AN ENERT FEELING IN MANY HUMAN BEINGS AND NOT A MONOPOLY IDEA OF ORGANIZED RELIGIONS. After reading your article, I have arrived at the conclusion that the concept of feeling good when we render service to others especially to those less able than ourselves is an enert feeling in some human beings all across whether moslem, Christian, hindu, sikh, pagan, atheist, etc, etc you name and not just a monopoly of Christianity and christians as some would have you believe.
