If asked what is the one most important thing in the world for us, we would probably answer that there are several important things. But if pushed to identify the most important thing in our life, it would be interesting to know what our answer would be.

Even though it may be a mental exercise, it can bring to our conscious awareness things about us which we ourselves may not have realised.

In answering the question, we start examining if there is a gap between what we say and what we truly feel. It makes us honest with ourselves.

It makes us aware as to why it is the most important thing for us. For the longest time, we may have known it but not realised why it is so. This makes us understand and appreciate the most valuable things we have.

In going through this reflection, we realise other important things, some of which we may have been taking for granted and not nurturing. It allows us to examine if there is a mismatch between what is truly important and how we are spending our time.

On further thought it makes us aware of our attachments, and the fear of losing that most important thing. It builds gratitude for every moment we get and also makes us realise that nothing will last forever.

It makes us look back on life and see if the most important thing has changed over the years. It makes us realise how we have changed over time.

This question has no right or wrong answer. It is personal to each one of us and different people will have different answers. The only important thing is to be true to ourselves and live our life aligned to what deeply matters.

Let us answer this question and know for ourselves; we don’t need to lose something in life to realise that it was probably the most important thing for us.
