Empowering Ourselves

Sep 5, 2020 | awareness | 4 comments

I was reflecting on a conversation I had about what is in our control and what is not. Results are an outcome of our effort and circumstances. Circumstances being variable and not in our control, results are not in our control. Does this mean we have no control, because that can be a very unsettling feeling. Far from the truth. We do have control – over our actions.

We are highly Empowered. It is important to shift our sense of empowerment from the outcome to our actions. This has two strong impacts.

Firstly, it puts us in control of our action and that gives us a huge sense of confidence that we are not helpless but can influence favourable outcomes. And when we start in small ways with small personal victories, it further strengthens our self awareness of our empowerment.

Secondly, it shifts our entire focus to performing our actions in the best possible way, removing the anxiety of results. That sense of empowerment can be very uplifting knowing that nothing can stop us from doing our best, even as the outcome is in the realm of the unknown.

And a fully focussed mind, acting in the now with full awareness, empowered to control our actions, without anxiety of the outcome, equanimous in success and setbacks, constantly striving with faith and knowledge, excels.

We may not have the power over what may  happen in future, but we certainly are empowered to excel. And our self awareness of our empowerment will enable us stand up to and face our challenges. Powerful forces of life may be against us. But let us never forget, that we too are Empowered.

    • Thanks for this Mukesh. Yes there is so much that can be achieved if we focus not on just giving but empowering people. The power of many trumps what an individual can do. Glad you are enjoying the daily reflections 🙂

  2. After reading your beautifully written piece, the ‘Serenity Prayer’ came to my mind: “God grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference”.
