We are creatures of habit. The thought patterns in us are ingrained and maps our actions, responses and behaviour. Of course they can change but we need to want to change them and work on them.
These deep seated desires, some good and some not so good have an interesting way of expressing themselves.
Now that we are confined and limited in our movements, our desires are subdued as they have no field conducive for their expression. We may feel a sense of control of having overcome and controlled them. This feeling can be an illusion. Temporary suppression is not permanent change.
To bring about change we can take two approaches. Drop the lower or assert the higher. The second approach is more effective. On reshaping and cultivating the higher in us, the lower automatically drops. This once in a lifetime pause allows us to relook and reshape our life.
But the true test and success will lie in our daily discipline and constant vigilance that the mind doesn’t drift when it goes back to its familiar field of activities.
Bringing about change cannot be part time. It’s a full time job, enjoying life and constantly asserting the higher with consistent self application. When we live with consistency of purpose, we develop consistency in our actions.
Change is possible. Unshackling our potential is possible. Dropping undesirable habits, tendencies and urges is possible. Re-cultivating our mind is possible.
Consistency is the key.
