Respect

Respect needs to be earned, not demanded. Our words and actions must make us worthy of respect.

When we think of others and go out of way to help, our compassion speaks for itself. Being caring builds respect.

People admire us for standing for our values. When, in the face of pressure, adversity or temptation we don’t waver, our inner strength is clear for all to see. Being principle centred builds respect.

It’s very easy to remain silent. But it’s those who’ve spoken up for what is right, when the majority were quiet, are the ones who’ve helped shape society. Courage earns us respect.

But demanding respect due to our ego and status is no respect at all.

There are many who work and interact with us, who materially or in position may not be as fortunate. And when we give them the same respect we give our peers, operating from the fundamental principle that as humans were all equal and deserving of the same respect, not only do we win respect but also love.

We live our lives earning and protecting the respect we’ve received. But our true inner fulfillment comes when we live to become worthy of our own Respect.
