Learning is a life long process. Like school, our daily life is a classroom. And each lesson comes our way to be learnt for our own good.
In school, we had teachers we knew, some who have impacted us greatly, and shaped us to be who we are today. Life too sends us teachers, but sometimes we don’t recognise them.
Difficult and unreasonable people teach us patience and resilience. They compel us to think differently and we discover options we earlier thought never existed. And sometimes they come as agents of change to help us move in a direction, much needed for us.
Failure teaches us. It builds our determination and develops our creativity to succeed with every fall. We learn the value of things when we don’t have it or lose it. It teaches us humility.
Success teaches us that if we are not mindful and get carried away, we can destroy in a short time, much that’s been built. And sometimes we see some people behaving differently depending on our success. It teaches us to recognise our true relationships based not on what we have but who we are.
People who are dependent on us teach us how to care with love and compassion. We learn how to put the needs of someone else before our own.
Human crisis teaches us the value of good governance and social structures. We get an opportunity to give with selflessness. It teaches us humanity. And it teaches us to be grateful even as we are empathetic.
Nature reminds us that her abuse is an abuse of life. She teaches us respect and responsibility. We cannot negotiate with nature – maybe that’s why she’s probably called Mother Nature !
Our children teach us that as the world changes we must too. They teach us the merit of being open minded and progressive. We learn acceptance. We learn that our way of thinking is not necessarily the only way.
Learning is living. Life knows what’s good for us. When we drop our ego and become the student, we will get an opportunity to learn our lesson and move on. We just need to recognise the Teacher.
A beautiful reflection Vivek!
Life is truly a learning experience.
The good experiences leave a strong impact in the recesses of the mind and go a long way in spreading positivity and passing what you have gained from your own experiences to gen next!
The negative ones also a learning experience… to learn from mistakes made and move ahead with the thought…How do I avoid making this mistake again!
A great teacher always remains a good student 🙂!
Well said Jiby !
I hope the love and compassion that we are all feeling particularly now becomes a way of life.
Then we can claim to have emerged positively from the COVID 19 experience.
Dear Vivek,
What a joy it is to wake up to these powerful capsules every morning. They are like a Starburst for the mind !!
The common thread through all these nuggets is the perspective that you share so succinctly. It is for Me to take charge, take responsibility & pivot my thoughts to look inwards. We spend a lot of time looking for the fall guy, someone to blame, but all along its just the direction of the lens that changes everything.
There is no better Teacher, than Life itself (other than your Mum 😉). Human birth is a privilege, so it’s important we recognise each experience as a brick to build on, to become a better me, to eventually be one with everything.
Look forward to tomorrow 😊
Thanks Milind ! And Yes our Gita study classes have been a huge influence and learning ground for us…blessed with a wonderful Teacher as you said !
Very true
Yet, so often, we simply ignore the lesson or just miss it. And then life has to teach us again.
Thank you, Vivek
Apart from all the teachers you mentioned, learning & reliving again true innocent joy & bliss from my grandson – (something one tends to forget as one grows older)
Thanks for reminding us of the purity and innocence young children reach us Vipul !
Thank you, Vivek
Famous saying “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear”
It’s exactly what I needed to read this morning to start the day in the right spirit, to see what this situation is teaching me. Merci!
