Each one of us is unique and special. Like a part of a jigsaw, we have a role to play without which the picture is incomplete. Our purpose in life is finding that role and playing it to the best of our ability.
Each piece in the jigsaw is small and different. It’s easy for it to feel insignificant and sometimes insecure. It may also look at another piece, like its shape and position and keep wishing it was that piece. But when the piece identifies with the whole jigsaw, it realises its significance. We must keep reminding ourselves that as along as we are alive, we are significant.
And we complete somebody else’s picture by playing our role. Whether as a parent, sibling, child, professional or friend. To stop getting weighed down by our roles and get inspired by the larger picture we are helping complete, is playing our role well.
It’s no longer about how important we are. It’s about identifying with the picture and feeling grateful to be part of it. When we give our best, in a spirit of service, identifying with the larger picture, our ego dissolves.
And no role is ever small. We are called upon to play it because we are best suited for it. Just as the finest actor need not get the largest role. And no role is too big to get egoistic and arrogant. It’s just that we’re suited for it.
Our ability to accept our roles helps us grow. Knowing that our growth lies not in the role, but how we play it. And knowing that when we are ready, the next role is waiting for us.
Each role has the potential for us to make a difference in someone’s life. That is the real role we have. To enrich someone’s life and include those not as fortunate as us in our prosperity.
As Shakespeare said – “All the world’s a stage”. It’s not about how big we are on stage. It’s only about how big the Role is in us.
So very true . Each one of us have come to play their role . Very well written
So beautifully expressed and so true . We only need to understand our role
quality is all important as quantity is just a number …really nice Vivek .
Loved this and especially the line ‘……as long as we are alive, we are significant’. We would help ourselves and the world around if we remembered this. What you managed to put so succinctlyAnd clearly goes so deep. Not feeling significant in a role/s often is the reason for us to feel ‘not worthy’ as well. However, that line is a reminder that as long as something exists, it’s worthy. As simple as that. We complicate it by adding the size and “impact” of the role at that moment . Roles change, I ( and the world)still exist To me, recognition of that significance is self worth. Don’t know if I’m rambling or making sense 🙂 !
Thank you for the daily dose of food for thought, Vivek! Really enjoy it.
Thanks for that Shruti. You are right, we don’t need to complicate things and just feel a sense of worth, not because of but in spite of….
Simply Beautiful
No words to express
Simply superb
When we give of our best in the spirit of service , not only does the ego dissolve
But I think one experiences a sense of joy like none other .
Very true Jyoti
So relevant today, especially with the news of upcoming and young actor, Sushant Rajput committing suicide.
Understanding the significance of our part in the whole picture and the resulting self worth changes our outlook. Also clearly shifts our focus from me the us.
Absolutely. And knowing that that the role will go through it’s ups and downs.
Most of the time life is drifting apart,,
Doing meaningless things
This thought is very reassuring
That–Iam here
That–I exist
For a reason
My very existence,, carries lot of
Responsibility
To the sustainability of the Universe
I too have an equal rolein making
The planet earth
A beautiful Whole
Thanks
,
Vivek,
Every piece you have written hits comes through perfectly and echoes our being.
This one on Roles is the absolutely most divine and brilliant verbal portrayal of the purpose of our “ being” raison d’être .
Vivek,
This one on Roles is most a
divine insight on the very purpose of
“ being” raison d’être .
Beautifully said Vivek! When we are secure in our place the giant jigsaw called life, there can be no misunderstandings no?
Thanks foe sharing!
