In spite of our knowledge and practice, sometimes we’re overcome with Moods of heaviness.
This feeling belongs to the mind. We don’t realise it, but there are several deep rooted emotions and memories which sometimes trigger off this heaviness. The cause-effect principle is not random. If we are experiencing a low, there is an underlying cause.
The immediate antidote to this inertia of heaviness is activity. It could be cleaning our desk or cupboard, removing old mails and files from our computer, listening to music, exercising or simply stepping out for a walk.
It is only when we move from inertia to activity can we move to serenity.
Does this mean we will regularly be victimised by deeper emotions springing up to pull us down. If the emotions are there the moods will come. But the four fold practice can be our life long companion to protect us from slipping into heaviness.
Introspect – Detect – Negate – Substitute.
Our regular practice of Quiet Time keeps us in constant awareness of our inner world. This introspective mood allows us to detect the coming of heaviness just as dark clouds announce the rain.
We must then immediately negate this feeling before it takes root and grips us. And at once substitute the upcoming heaviness with a lighter, happier and positive thought.
This is a form of open eye meditation. To be aware of our thoughts without getting gripped by our moods. This witness attitude empowers us that we need not be victims, but masters of our mind.
Heaviness has no place if we are to build a wonderful life for ourselves and others. Even the fastest bird needs light feathers.
Very well said.
