We carry an image of what a picture perfect life looks like for us. We somehow believe we can control things to fit into this frame and spend our life in that pursuit.
A fixed frame comes from our ego and deep seated insecurities.
An ego which believes we can control the events of life to be the way we want.
Our security lies in relationships, money, health, success and other transient things. And we want them to always be in place and fit into our frame, else we are agitated, disturbed and depressed.
It’s not about fitting the picture into our frame. Living effectively is learning to give the right frame to the different pictures life throws at us. The frame of perspective.
Perspective is learning to accept things we cannot change, finding the courage to change what we can but more importantly knowing the difference between the two.
Acceptance is not a meek feeling of helplessness and resignation. On the contrary. It is having the strength of humility, knowing that there’s a higher law of the Universe at play and nothing happens without a purpose.
As we look at at some of the most difficult and challenging times in our life, we now realise they were some of the best things that ever happened to us. What’s good for us comes to us in strange ways !
We will grow and develop as long as we live with the right perspective.
So true ! This phase that we are all going thru together right now has really changed a lot of people’s perspective on so many things .
So very true, Vivek…..one needs to develop wisdom to differentiate what is and is not in our control and how best to respond and not react to situations
Hi
Deep and insightful
So true Vivek …….we do learn from our challenges and mistakes. Looking at situations in different ways surely changes our perspective.
Thanks for this Sita. The situation does not change but by looking at it differently we find aspects we had missed out and sometimes this helps not only cope with the situation but also turn it to our advantage.
I think perspective is mediated by our sense of purpose. With strong purpose comes shifting priorities and even securities can diminish. Frontline workers today are those prepared to sacrifice securities for a sense of purpose which is others lives and the saving of the country in whatever small way. They have entered a perspective shift. The challenge is for everyone to follow to make their ‘cause’ stick.
Very well put Nick !
