We strive to get people’s attention. It helps us engage with them and build on our ideas and plans.
But how aware are we of our own attention. Attention is that power in our mind that energises our thoughts. Whatever we give attention to starts strengthening within, shaping us as people.
Often we’ve heard ourselves say – “but that’s the way I am, I can’t change”. Nothing is further than the truth. Not only can we change, the power to change lies within us. And the secret lies in the simple practice of being Aware of our Attention.
Not every passing thought deserves our attention. Just as we walk past several people, we don’t necessarily engage with all of them. In fact we avoid those harmful to us. It’s the same with our mind. To watch the quality of our thoughts and decide which ones to engage with and build on, makes us the architect of our own life.
If we are able to shift our attention as soon as we see the negative thought surfacing, we get saved from engagement. But some thoughts and desires are overpowering and we feel helpless having failed several times. It is natural.
How often we’ve reacted and said something only to regret it. How often we’ve promised ourselves, yet given into temptation. How often we’ve wasted precious time in day dreaming and fanciful imagination. How often we’ve lived in the past and wasted our precious present. It’s not the thought that’s the problem. It’s that we dropped our awareness and gave it our attention.
When our best efforts fail, prayer helps. For in prayer we tap deep into ourselves, with sincerity to change, looking to access our unlimited Power within. Grace has a way of strengthening us in our darkest moments. We just need to turn our attention to the Higher.
Thoughts will be countless. Let us live with those worthy of our Attention.
Lovely. Look forward to these messeges!
A beautiful reflection Vivek!
When we were kids, we were often told by our parents… Pay Attention..
At that time they were probably reminding us to pay attention to our moral values and were themselves paying attention to nurturing us into growing up to be good human beings.
At school, our teachers were constantly reprimanding us to Pay Attention .. so that we inculcated knowledge and helped us to become productive and good citizens of our society at large..
At our workplace the bosses would keep reminding us to Pay Attention , so that we could focus and give our undivided attention to the work at hand..
Amidst all this we sometimes lose focus on our cluttered mind .
You have so beautifully reminded us to Pay Attention to our thoughts and throw out the unnecessary clutter 👏🏻👏🏻
👏so true!
Fabulous. Very powerful.
Great. The lockdown seems to have unlocked hidden talent. Time to reflect in the quiet of Lonavala further helps. Keep it up. Milind Gadkary
Profound and so relevant. Reminds me of a talk I heard about how we always talk of mind and body, and that the mind must be in control and needs to be conditioned. But there is a 3rd component.. mind, body and *soul*. The soul is our true inner self, the mind is a programmable media where ideas, concepts, opinions, thoughts, intentions, our mood and actions can be added, deleted or modified. Our soul is our underlying true personality and inner self, which needs meditative nourishment and growth.
Was reading the Word this morning and thought I’d share this verse –
My grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness .
Corinthians 12:9

So true…very few realise one has the power to change for the better if one truly wants to
In these times when so much negative thoughts creep in ..these words remind us that they don’t need our attention. Thank you vivek.
We need to be attentive to our reality but not feed energy to negative emotions.
Wonderful message on being attentive to ourselves which in today’s times we were not doing & now we have the opportunity to look within & find our strengths
Lovely 👌🏼
